Landon Bow, Sheldon Dries help Texas Stars defeat Grand Rapids 2-1

After finding the proverbial light at the end of the tunnel, Texas returned home against Grand Rapids to keep their momentum shining, and did so in a 2-1 victory with the composed play of Landon Bow,

The first period looked like the road trip all over again. Through the first ten minutes, Grand Rapids outshot Texas 13 to 2. Only Travis Morin and Tommy Thompson registered shots more than halfway through the initial frame.

The difference early on was Bow, who looked, at least for one period, bulletproof – even with the Griffins tallying shots and opportunities.

Texas got on board with Colin markison scoring his third goal of a season, beating Tom McCollum on a rush up ice.

The Stars kept the lid on odd man rushes once the second frame got rolling. Travis Morin, who continues an impressive run of overall play beyond just his team leading point total, and Julius Honka led the way in shots through two.

The lack of special teams play helped keep the shot totals low and the pace high. Bow kept his composure but Eric Trangradi and Tyler Bertuzzi teamed up to tie the game for Bertuzzi’s second of the season.

With the game tied going into the third, both clubs played a tight-checking game, registering a collective 7 shots halfway through the final stanza. Greg Rallo’s interferene penalty would be a blessing in disguise.

Sheldon Dries, a player who continues to impress despite little fanfare, scored a shorthanded goal to give Texas the lead.

Dillon Heatherington and Bertuzzi were both called for delinquency for some four on four time. Bow was challenged a bit but remained the star of the game.

Other than a shaky first period, Friday might have been Texas’ most complete performance despite the lack of goals.

Texas returns Saturday to complete the back to back against Grand Rapids at 7.
